Travel and Learn

When people talk about the nomadic lifestyle, they often focus on the combination of travel and work. But to me, the nomadic experience is more about a mindset of travel and learning.

Traveling is a great way to learn and gain first-hand experience. By immersing yourself in a new culture, language, and way of life, you can earn a unique perspective that can’t be obtained from books, articles, lectures, or online courses.

Traveling allows you to meet people from all different backgrounds. There is a saying in Hebrew that says, “Who is the wise person? The one who learns from every person.” By listening to others and trying to understand their perspective, you can gain a deeper understanding of the world than you would from any other experience.

These learnings could also be very practical and might even allow sustaining your traveling lifestyle. How?

Una herida abierta (protejamos los árboles)

En Tarapoto vivir y soñar es lo mismo.

La música proveniente de las casas empieza a escucharse al compás de los primeros rayos de luz con los que el sol pinta de vida al que es uno de los lugares más hermosos del mundo. A solo metros de la ciudad, el verde que inunda los paisajes, las nubes de color rosa, la rareza única de árboles exóticos, aves coloridas, la diversidad inacabable de una fauna abundante y las sonrisas de gente sencilla que baila cuando camina y canta cuando habla, se complementan para conformar un paraíso terrenal que la naturaleza decidió crear en plena selva peruana. Perfecto y deslumbrante, es imposible poner un pie en este lugar sin ser invadido por una poderosa necesidad de protegerlo.

Tarapoto no es solo un paraíso, es una necesidad. La deforestación mundial ha alcanzado niveles nunca antes vistos. El ser humano depreda incansablemente los recursos que garantizan su propia existencia con una irresponsabilidad tan dolorosa como incomprensible. Una industria multimillonaria que promueve actividades ilegales como la tala de árboles, la minería informal y el tráfico de tierras, ha consolidado un mercado de la muerte que saquea sin piedad todos los bastiones naturales que mantienen la vida en nuestro planeta. A esta tragedia se le suma una inmensa ignorancia que promueve una falsa abundancia de recursos donde en realidad solo existe una delicada articulación de ecosistemas. El ser humano está llamado a proteger la vida, sin embargo, esta frágil armonía natural está siendo amenazada por la avaricia de hombres inescrupulosos que se apoyan en la pobreza de locales olvidados por sus países quienes, contradictoriamente, encuentran una manera de sobrevivir destruyendo la vida. El hombre mata en horas lo que la madre naturaleza creó meticulosamente durante siglos, y es precisamente esta desproporción la que amenaza la continuidad de nuestra especie.

An open wound (let’s protect the trees)

In Tarapoto, living and dreaming are the same thing.

The music coming from the houses begins to be heard to the rhythm of the first rays of light with which the sun paints with life one of the most beautiful places in the world. Just meters from the city, the green that floods the landscapes, the pink clouds, the unique rarity of exotic trees, colorful birds, the endless diversity of an abundant fauna, and the smiles of simple people who dance when they walk and sing while they talk, they complement each other to form an earthly paradise that nature decided to create in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. Perfect and dazzling, it is impossible to set foot in this place without being invaded by a powerful need to protect it.

Global deforestation has reached unprecedented levels. Human beings tirelessly destroy the resources that guarantee their own existence with irresponsibility that is as painful as incomprehensible. A multi-million dollar industry that promotes illegal activities such as logging, informal mining, and land trafficking has consolidated a market of death that mercilessly plunders all the natural bastions that sustain life on our planet. Added to this tragedy is an immense ignorance that promotes a false abundance of resources where in reality, there is only a delicate articulation of ecosystems. One of humanity’s goals is to protect life on this planet. However, this fragile natural harmony is under threat by the greed of immoral men who rely on the poverty of locals abandoned by their respective states, who in their eagerness to find a livelihood end up destroying it. Man kills in hours what Mother Nature meticulously created for centuries, and it is precisely this disproportion that threatens the continuity of our species.

The most sacred place in the world

The confrontation between Palestinians and Israelis has once again reached catastrophic levels. For decades this dispute has faced two cultures whose presence in the area dates back thousands of years and whose solution could reach the same age. While it is true that the conflict has many angles, it is its highly religious nature that transforms the discussion about the belonging of Jerusalem into the most delicate point. We will never find a solution to this confrontation if we continue to see the city as a simple possession.

El lugar más sagrado del mundo

El enfrentamiento entre palestinos e israelíes ha alcanzado nuevamente niveles catastróficos. Esta disputa enfrenta desde hace décadas a dos culturas cuya presencia en la zona se remonta a miles de años, y cuya solución podría alcanzar la misma edad. Si bien es cierto que el conflicto debe ser visto desde varios ángulos, es su carácter altamente religioso el que transforma la discusión sobre la pertenencia de Jerusalén en el punto más delicado del conflicto. Jamás encontraremos una solución a este enfrentamiento si seguimos viendo a la ciudad como una simple posesión.

The globalization of culture

Globalization is all-encompassing. Our cultures have long crossed borders, reaching far and wide. A kid from Copenhagen consuming content on Netflix or Youtube would have much in common as a kid from Arequipa watching the same. Most probably, they will be able to communicate successfully in English without realizing that a good part of their identity disappears along the way. The Internet has released the boundaries of content (to a certain extent), bringing cultures to evolve similarly.
